PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relatively simply find a refractive index required for particle size distribution measurement, with high reliability. SOLUTION: A particle size distribution is measured in advance as to sample particles of a kind same to measuring objective particles, using an instrument for measuring the particle size distribution without finding the refractive index as in a SEM, an optical microscope or the like, scattered light generated by irradiating the sample particles with a fixed wavelength of light is measured also, measured result information obtained directly or indirectly from a measured result therein is compared with a corresponding calculated result information calculated based on temporarily set tentative refractive index information, and the true refractive index of the measuring objective particles is found from the tentative refractive index information based on a degree of consistency.
