<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for efficiently and economically degrading and removing a fine quantity of harmful chemical materials particularly like environmental disruptors in a persistent organic compound contained in water. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes a chlorine treatment device (a chlorine mixing tub 2 and a chlorine contact tub 6, for example) for applying chlorine treatment to water 1 to be treated, a physicochemical treatment device (an ozone generating device 7, and an ozone contact tub 8, for example) and/or a biological treatment device. The environmental disruptors that can be degraded by inexpensive chlorine treatment are first converted into a material of low hormone activity by chlorine treatment, and thereafter, the remaining environmental disruptors or the other persistent organic compounds are removed by at least one of either physicochemical treatment or biological treatment or their combined treatment. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
