There is described a method of controlling a bonnet actuating assembly (2) of a vehicle (1) to safeguard pedestrians (3) in the event of impact against the front bumper (8) of the vehicle (1), the method including the steps of: acquiring an impact signal (IMPACT) containing information relating to the presence and/or duration of impact against the front bumper (8); acquiring at least one acceleration signal (ACC_DX, ACC_SX) indicating the intensity of impact-induced deceleration of the front bumper (8); comparing the impact signal (IMPACT) with a respective minimum impact value (V MIN); comparing the acceleration signal (ACC_DX, ACC_SX) with a respective minimum acceleration value (AMA_DX_MIN, AMAS_XM_IN); and activating the bonnet actuating assembly (2) when the impact signal (IMPACT) is above the respective minimum impact value (VM_IN) at least for a predetermined minimum time (CLOSE_TIME_MIN), and the acceleration signal (ACCD_X, ACCS_X) is above the respective minimum acceleration value (AMA_DX_MIN, AMA_SX_MIN) at least for a predetermined minimum time (EVENT_MIN_AMA).
