<p>A data recording and reproducing system capable of improving the error detection and correction capability when retrying data reproduction. In the data recording and reproducing system, the recording signal having the data encoded by the convolutional code is recorded and reproduced through a partial response channel, and the data is decoded from the reproduced signal by using the iterative decoding using the likelihood information. The data is decoded by using a memory unit for storing the reproduced signal, a retry a determination unit for determining whether the re-retry is necessary according to the reproduced signal by the first reproduction, a reproduced signal by the first reproduction stored in the memory unit if re-reproduction is determined to be necessary by the reproduced signal by the first reproduction, and both or one of the reproduced signals which have been re-reproduced.</p> |
