<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a visiting system and a method for monitoring patients, by which the visiting of hospitalized patients can be realized easily via a video telephone, by deciding the propriety of the meeting by currently grasping the conditions of the patient by making use of a communication network. <P>SOLUTION: The system has customer terminals 10, a nosocomial management device 20, and patient terminals 30. Each customer terminal is provided with a video telephone function and is connected to the communication network 100. The management device is connected to the network, decides the propriety of the meeting of the hospitalized patient upon receiving a inquiry for meeting from a customer terminal, by grasping the state of the medical care taken to the patient, and connects the terminal to the patient terminal of the patient as a video telephone, when the device decides that the meeting is possible, or responds to the terminal that the meeting is impossible, when the device decides that the meeting is impossible. The patient terminal is provided with a video telephone function, installed to the patients room of the patient in a state where the terminal is connected to the management device and is connected to the customer terminal, when the visit can be made so that visit for the patient is conducted through the video telephone.
