A processing device (PD) (10) triggers optical sources (2) so that a reference surface (RS) (1a) of a component (1) is illuminated preponderantly by optical sources (2a) with a sharp beam angle set to the RS. An optical recording device (4) transmits image data (ID) to the PD for temporary storage there. The ID reproduces the RS. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) A device for optical control of surfaces of motor vehicle bodywork parts; (b) and for a computer program product to be loaded into the internal memory of a processing device and to run the different stages of the method of the present invention.
