The workpiece position measuring device comprises at least one electronic camera (3,4,5), calibrated by a standard co-ordinate system, and a digital image processing system. The electronic cameras are freely swivelable to allow positioning and also comprise a zoom function. The position of the sensor heads on the cameras is automatically adjusted depending on the measured object type. An Independent claim is included for a method for determining the position of a workpiece.
