PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus whereby a receiver side instructs and performs prescribed processing such as output and transfer of a received facsimile document through remote control and which is capable of flexibly coping with fluctuating change of processing conditions. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a facsimile communication section 12 acting as a communication means for making communication with an external apparatus 42 in compliance with the facsimile communication procedure; a data processing section 14 for decoding facsimile communication data received by the communication means and from the external apparatus 42 to extract image data and communication control data; an image memory 18 for storing the image data obtained by the image data processing section 14 associated with identification data corresponding to the image data; and a control section 16 for notifying a fact of receiving the facsimile communication data and the identification data of the image data to transmit electronic mail to a preset electronic mail address and creating confirmation electronic mail to urge setting of a processing form of the image data when the data processing section 14 obtains the communication control data.
