PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot air type heater detecting when operation is started without an air filter attached to an air inlet, warning a user that the air filter is unattached, and prompting usage by attaching the air filter properly. SOLUTION: The hot air type heater is provided with a combustion chamber 6 facing a gas burner, an air blowing fan heating air by heat of combustion and sending it out from a hot air outlet, the air filter detachably provided on the air inlet, a temperature detecting means 10 for detecting temperature change of the combustion chamber during combustion, and a main control means 14a determining that the air filter is unattached and sending a warning when a detected temperature value by the temperature detecting means becomes a reference temperature value or less based upon a temperature of the combustion chamber during combustion without the air filter attached to the air inlet.
