PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device therefor, for accurately detecting an unevenness of a tire side part, by securely separating the unevenness due to a mark such as a character from a detected wave form, in detecting the unevenness of the tire side part. SOLUTION: The output wave form of a detection means for detecting the unevenness of the tire side part is transformed into discrete positional data f(i) for each preset interval, and a smooth differential value F(i) of a designated position (i) is calculated. When the absolute value of the smooth differential value F(i) exceeds a preset threshold value K, the positional data are judged as the data on the mark of the stamped tire side. When both of the rising positional data and the falling positional data on the protruded part of the wave form are the positional data arising from the mark, an operation for replacing all positional data constituting the protruded part with the rising positional data is repeated so that the unevenness arising from the mark are eliminated from the wave form.
