摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tire wear evaluation method that can be easily conducted for vehicles equipped with an antilock braking system. SOLUTION: This method for controlling functioning of a tire includes the steps of: determining estimations or measurements of a slip G<SB>i</SB>and a coefficient frictionμ<SB>i</SB>most prevailing at the said slip, for at least one pair "i" of values (G<SB>i</SB>,μ<SB>i</SB>); determining a corresponding value of a slopeα<SB>i</SB>of a straight line passing through an origin and the values (G<SB>i</SB>,μ<SB>i</SB>); calculating a coefficient B by direct calculation or by a regression of the values (α<SB>i</SB>, G<SB>i</SB>) from a sufficient number of pairs so as to estimate a value of a slopeα<SB>0</SB>at the origin; and using the value of the slopeα<SB>0</SB>as an indicator of longitudinal stiffness of a tread pattern.
