PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical module which aligns the positional relationship of an optical element and an optical transmission member with good accuracy and by which high coupling efficiency can be rapidly and surely obtained. SOLUTION: For example, the positions of the optical transmission member 3 and the optical element 2 are adjusted in such a manner that both are coupled to optimum positions. The position of a Y direction which is a direction perpendicular to the surface of a substrate 1 fastened with the member 3 is measured by laser micrometers 10 (10a, 10b and 10c) and thereafter the member 3 is fastened by a solder material 5. Again, the position is measured by the laser micrometers 10 and the displacement from the measured value prior to the fastening is detected. The secured part is again melted and the member 3 is displaced by as much as the displacement and is again fastened. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
