PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide structure preventing exposure of a melted part to a lead surface causing hole widening and scattering and a welding method, and to provide a stable welding method with a wide control range in welding a battery case bottom and a lead. SOLUTION: In this cylindrical battery, the outside of a case is irradiated with laser as a method for welding a battery case and the lead, the melted part is present in a region on a lead inside from a case outside surface, and not exposed to the lead surface. Its manufacturing method is that a heat resistant rod-shaped jig having a coefficient of thermal conductivity of 50 W/m/K or more is pressed against the lead surface to make the lead contact to the case, the outside is irradiated with laser to melt a part of the case and a part of the lead to weld them. Temperature of the lead surface is measured, at a point of time reaching a threshold value, emitting of laser is stopped, and thereby, the melted part position on the inside of the lead is made constant.
