PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect the position of a date character in a plurality of photographic images taken in one photographic film. SOLUTION: The contraction processing part 32 of a PC 1 performs the contraction processing of image data S (S1, S2, etc.) obtained by converting photographic images taken in one photographic film to obtain contracted image data Sa. A pre-processing part 24 performs morphology processing of opening for the respective contracted image data Sa only in the vertical direction to obtain pre-processed image data Sb. An addition processing part 26 adds the respective pre-processed image data Sb followed by averaging to obtain average image data Sc.
