An easy-opening feature (40) in a flexible package (20) is provided by formi ng a tear feature (42) in the package material (26) by slitting, perforating, o r otherwise forming a stress riser in the material (26), and affixing a label (44) to the package material (26) so that the label (44) adheres to the tear feature (42). The formation of the tear feature (42) and affixing of the lab el (44) are performed prior to wrapping a product in the package material (26, 28) and sealing the material, and preferably are performed while the package material (26, 28) is moving along a path in a packaging apparatus (60).
