PURPOSE: A method and a device for controlling the display of a program guide are provided to prevent the display of program information for channels that are locked by a user, thereby reducing time required for displaying the program information on a screen and preventing a different user from viewing the locked programs. CONSTITUTION: If a lock mode command per channel is inputted, a lock setting menu is displayed on a screen(210). If an OSD(On Screen Display) picture requesting a user password is outputted, a user inputs a password(220). Whether the input password is identical to a predetermined password is determined(230). If the passwords are the same, a lock for the respective channel is set(232). If the passwords are not the same, an error message is displayed on the screen(232). If a broadcast signal is received(234), a check is made for locked channels(240). If locked channels are detected, program information corresponding to the locked channels is skipped(244). Program information corresponding to the unlocked channels is extracted(242). The program information of the unlocked channels is displayed in a program guide on the screen(246). Whether a lock mode command has been issued for each program is determined(250). If an OSD picture requesting a user password is outputted, a user inputs a password(252). Whether the input password is identical to a predetermined password is determined(260). If the passwords are the same, a lock for the corresponding program is set(262). If the passwords are not the same, an error message is displayed on the screen(232). At the beginning time of broadcast, whether the program desired by the user is locked is determined(270).
