A back sight for a rifle comprises a peep hole disc 1, Fig. 1, and a screen 3 arranged between the eye 5 and the disc 1 and having an aperture 4 which is larger than the peep hole 2. The screen 3 serves to mask deflected light rays 8 and reduce the blur of the image. The disc 1 and screen 3 are arranged at opposite ends of a tube 10, Fig. 3, which is carried by a vertically adjustable nut 11 for varying the range. The nut 11 is mounted on screws 12 rotatable within a housing 13 by a milled cap 17 having a toothed gear ring 16 engaging gears 15 on the screws 12. Fine adjustment of the range setting is obtained by a disc 19 having a gear rim 23 engaging the gears 15. Lateral adjustment of the housing 13 in dove-tail grooves 28 is obtained by a screw 26 rotatable on a fixed support plate 27 and engaging a a threaded bore 25 in the housing 13. |
