PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gradient magnetic field coil device, realized by upgrade to an existing system without generation of artifact and noise even if an active shield gradient magnetic field coil device (ASGC) is shorter than a static magnetic field generating magnet, and a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: A magnetic field intercepting part formed of a conductive metal is provided at the end of the ASGC axially shorter than the static magnetic field generating magnet. The magnetic field generated from the end of the ASGC with application of a pulsed current is intercepted by coupling with the magnetic field intercepting part. Thus, electromagnetic coupling between the gradient magnetic field generated by the ASGC and the static magnetic field generating magnet can be restrained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
