A process for producing an aminoalkylsulfonic acid represented by the general formula [2]: [2] (wherein R<1> and R<2> each represents hydrogen, aryl, etc.; and R<3> and R<4> each represents hydrogen or alkyl), characterized by reacting a solution of a compound represented by the general formula [1]: [1] (wherein M represents an alkali metal, etc.) in a water-soluble organic solvent selected among alcohols, carboxylic acids, and dimethylformamide with an organic acid; and a method of salt exchange for an aminoalkylsulfonic acid salt represented by the general formula [1']: [1'] (wherein M' represents an alkali metal, etc.), characterized by reacting the compound represented by the general formula [2] with a hydroxide represented by the general formula [6]: [6] in an alcohol or water.
