PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically clean the surface of an objective lens (41) when reading of information on an optical disk is started and the reading is completed by employing a low cost constitution in which the amount of the movement of a pickup is increased and a cleaning member is added. SOLUTION: A pickup moving means 5 extends the movement of the lens 41 to the outside of the radius of an optical disk 1. A cleaning member 12 is provided to clean the surface of an eyepiece lens 41 by disposing the member 12 to overlap the moving locus of the lens 41 that moves outside the radius of the disk 1. A control circuit 10, which is used to abut the lens 41 on the member 12 is provided when the information is not read from the disk 1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
