PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ruler for a thermal cutter which can cut neatly and speedily a metal plate without requiring the drawing of a line on the metal plate with a chalk or the like as before and also without need of technical skill and dexterity, when the metal plate is cut out using the thermal cutter. SOLUTION: A magnet (5) is attached inside a recessed part (4) formed in the bottom part of a main body (1) of a ceramic ruler having outstanding heat-resistance, and a metal plate (10) is cut out by making the main body (1) of the ceramic ruler stick by magnetization on the metal plate (10) and setting a metallic nozzle (12) of the thermal cutter (11) at the end part (7) of the ruler formed at a lower part of the outside wall of the main body (1) of the ceramic ruler and making a jetting heat ray (13) shoot out along the end part (7) of the ruler.
