The gully cleaning vehicle (1), with suction and flushing systems, has a suction hose (3) for insertion into the gully shaft (20) to extract dirt for transfer into an on-board container (2). A hose (4) is unwound from a reel (10) to flush out the gully. The suction and flushing hoses are moved and positioned by a common jib. When the vehicle is on the move, the jib is at the rear and aligned across the line of travel. When required for use, the jib swings around a vertical axis to deploy the suction and flushing hoses.
