PURPOSE: A motion picture encoder and an encoding method using the same are provided to preliminarily process and store video signals passed through DCT and quantization to be selectively used for VLC, inverse quantization, and inverse DCT, thereby increasing the efficiency of encoding. CONSTITUTION: A DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform)(11) transforms video signals applied from the outside. A process control unit(14) quantizes the transformed video signals and processes the quantized video signals for reference image reproduction and VLC(Variable Length Coding). A video memory(16) stores the reference image restored by the process control unit. A motion predictor(15) estimates motion based on the reference image stored in the video memory for compensating the motion. A VLC encoder(20) proceeds with variable length coding by using the value processed in the process control unit for variable length coding. |
