<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image generating system which stores the setting of image generation in an original document by using a semiconductor chip capable of reading the stored data by non-contact. <P>SOLUTION: In this system, first, a UI (user interface) section 502 accepts an operation by a user. Next, a setting selecting section 504 judges whether this operation instructs processing according to the setting information of an IC chip attached to the original or instructs processing according to setting information entered by the user. In the former case, an operation control section 506 controls a data reading section 520 to read the setting information from the IC chip attached to the original, and controls a printing control section 510 etc. to perform printing/facsimile transmission etc. according to the setting information.
