PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retarded resin composition producing no harmful gases, such as halogens, in burning, leaving less residual ash after incineration and causing no bleeding of the added flame retardant on the resin surface. SOLUTION: The burning rate of a polymer having active OH groups in the molecule can be controlled low by phosphoric acid or its derivative in the presence of nitrogen atoms. Therefore, a material having flame retarding performance equal to or higher than self-extinguishing performance and/or retarding the ignition time can be obtained by adding or laminating the composition onto the outer layer of a polyolefin type resin. Being halogen-free, the composition produces no harmful gases, such as dioxins, and the ash content of the resin can be controlled low by adjusting the amount of the resin. Having a thermally decomposable composition, compared with current flame-retardant materials, the composition is chemically recyclable. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
