HUMECTANT AND EXTERNAL PREPARATION FOR SKIN AND METHOD FOR USING EXTRACT OF LITHOSPERMUM RADIX

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new humectant giving moisture to the skin.

SOLUTION: The humectant comprises hot water extract of dried material of the roots of Lithospermum Radix and the other allied species as an active ingredient. A polysaccharide fraction of the extract of lithospermum root precipitated by adding ethanol and methanol to hot water extract of the dried lithospermum root can be used as the humectant. The resultant humectant is used for various kinds of external preparations for skin together with main ingredients such as vitamins and an anti-inflammatory agent.
