PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce loss of connection with another optical transmission medium in an optical waveguide device which is suitably used for an optical transmission device applied to the field of optical communication. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide device 100 which is equipped with a substrate 110 and has a clad 120 and a core 130 forming an optical waveguide on the surface of the substrate has a recessed part 111 on the surface of the substrate 110 at a part corresponding to the connection part of the core 130, forming the optical waveguide, for connection with another optical transmission medium, the core 130 being formed to different sizes at the position of an intermediate part of the optical waveguide and the position of the part where the recessed part is formed.
