PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder in which clogging of each recording element can be prevented appropriately in order to ensure stabilized ink ejection characteristics constantly for an inkjet recording head having many recording elements without increasing the circuit scale, and to provide a control method for the recorder. SOLUTION: The recorder performs recording using an inkjet recording head having a plurality of recording elements wherein input record data is distributed to the plurality of recording elements so that recording operation is distributed among them. The number of ink ejection times is then measured individually for a part of the plurality of recording elements being distributed with recording data using a plurality of counters and the recorder is controlled depending on the counts.
