PURPOSE: A printer having a scanner is provided to reduce the developing period and the developing cost by using the scanner without regarding to a scanning direction of a document. CONSTITUTION: A light source irradiates light corresponding to printing image information. A scanning mirror is rotated forward and backward and projects light corresponding to the image information on a photosensitive drum by rotating. A first and a second synchronizing detectors(218,208) detect synchronizing signals to show a starting point of the image information to be projected on the photosensitive drums. A light source control unit controls the light source to detect the synchronizing signal in the first or the second synchronizing detectors corresponding to the rotating direction of the scanning mirror. Thereby, the scanning device is applied to any printers without regarding to the scanning direction of a document.
