PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission capable of reducing the space for its mounting and driving an input rod even when an electric motor for shifting is in failure. SOLUTION: The transmission device is structured so that a shift lever is engaged selectively with either of a plurality of fork shafts of a speed change gear and the fork shaft engaged is made slidable in its axial direction. The shift lever is driven by the motor 19, and the driving force of the shift lever due to the motor is assisted by a power shift device 20. The operating position of the normally used shift lever to be operated by the driver is sensed by an operation sensing switch, and on the basis of the output of the operation sensing switch, a controller controls the motor. The output shaft 19a of the motor and the input rod 27 of a power shift device are arranged coaxially, and the output shaft and the input rod are coupled together through a ball screw 43 installed in a coupling sleeve 25.
