<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce damages to a fixing device by preventing a consecutive recording material from rushing into the fixing device when a jam occurs in the fixing device. <P>SOLUTION: When a jam of a recording material in the fixing device 66 is detected, the fixing device is stopped, while a photoreceptor drum 51, an intermediate transfer belt 57 are continuously driven. However, the image forming actions on the photoreceptor drum 51, i.e., a charging, an exposure, a development and a primary transferring or the like are stopped. Further, the output at the time of transferring of a secondary transferring roller 63 is continued and the discharging output of a first discharging member 64 is stopped. Thus, a recording material P next to the jammed recording material P is not separated from the intermediate transfer belt 57, but sucked on the the intermediate transfer belt 57, and arrives at the position at which the second discharging material 71 exists.
