PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a technology to establish picture quality regardless of the normal rotation/reserve rotation of display when performing projection display while compensating trapezoidal distortion. SOLUTION: A projector 10 performs projection display. An image processing part 20 outputs a corrected image to a driving part 30 based on the input of a receiver 12. At that time, an image is deformed within the corrected image for compensating trapezoidal distortion due to shifting display. The driving part 30 drives a liquid crystal panel 40 while changing the direction of the driving order of liquid crystal cells according to the presence/absence of an inversion instruction. An image formed on the liquid crystal panel 40 is projected on a screen SC by a projection optical system 54. The image processing part 20 switches the arrangement of the deformed images at the upper and lower edges of the corrected image according to the presence/absence of the inversion instruction. The deformed images formed on the liquid crystal panel 40 are obtained by using a large amount of effective beams close to a central axis 50 of a lens regardless of the inversion of the driving order of the liquid crystal cells by the switching.
