PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator with further improved output characteristics, and a pumping plant and a compressor arrangement using it. SOLUTION: The linear actuator 1 comprises a yoke body 10 having a first and a second yoke portions 11 and 12, a coil 60 which generates an alternating field in the yoke body 10, magnets 30 magnetized in the axial direction, intermediate yokes 21 and 22 which are disposed so as to sandwich the magnets 30 from both sides in the axial direction and form a first gap 6 between them and the first yoke portion 11 and a second gap 7 between them and the second yoke portion 12, and a movable body 50 provided with a magnetic material 51 disposed in the first gap 6 so that the magnetic material is movable in the axial direction.
