PURPOSE: A device for generating a high-power optical packet is provided to control packet length and a packet rate of an optical packet signal inputted to an optical amplifier, and to control a gain of the optical amplifier, thereby extending transmission distance through optical fiber and preventing insertion loss of an optical star coupler. CONSTITUTION: An optical signal generator(1) receives an electric signal or an optical signal, processes the received signal under control of a controller(2), and generates a single wavelength or a WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical packet signal from an output end. An input signal of the optical signal generator(1) is either a consecutive signal or the packet signal. An output optical packet signal of the optical signal generator(1) is amplified in an optical amplifier(3), and is transmitted through a transmission path. The controller(2) determines packet length and a packet rate of the output optical packet signal, and controls a gain value for the optical packet signal of the optical amplifier(3).
