<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which coding processing of the interlaced image signal can be simplified efficiently while efficiency of holding coding throughput highly in an image coding system which performs variable length coding for every blocks of image signals. <P>SOLUTION: This system is provided with following parts; a blocking part 102 which makes image signals block, a coding part 200a1 which generates quantize coefficients of each blocking performing DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform ) processing and quantize processing to blocked image signals, a plurality of scanners 109s1 to 109s3 of different sequence orders which set the quantize scanning orders by scanning quantize coefficients, and a variable length coding part 112 which performs coding the quantize coefficients of each block in the set sequence; and this system is made switch the operation which selects the scanner adaptively and the operation which does not perform the adaptive selection of the scanner. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
