PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in a mobile working robot for measuring the distance with an obstacle by use of infrared rays that the distance between a body and the obstacle cannot be precisely measured by the influence of infrared rays generated from a light source other than the body. SOLUTION: This robot has a distance measuring means 3 for measuring the distance between the body and a wall surface or obstacle by use of infrared rays, a traveling control means for controlling the traveling direction and traveling speed according to the measurement result by the distance measuring means 3; and an illuminance measuring means 9 for measuring the illuminance around the body. The traveling control means controls both or either one of the traveling direction and the traveling speed to change according to the measurement result by the illuminance measuring means 9. Accordingly, a mobile working robot capable of preventing the influence on traveling of the infrared rays generated from a light source other than the body, precisely measuring the distance between the body and the obstacle, and safely traveling can be realized.
