A vehicle that reduces injuries to occupants during a collision is disclosed. The vehicle includes at least one compartment mounted on a chassis which is motile when a. collision occurs. The compartment, in one embodiment, is motile in a first direction substantially parallel to a line from the aft to fore ends of the vehicle. The motile compartment absorbs some of the force of the impact, thereby reducing the force on the occupant of the vehicle.
