PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To draw other data in a recording buffer having data being processed for recording, parallel therewith. SOLUTION: An ink jet recording apparatus for imaging by repeating a recording scanning operation with a recording head in the main scanning direction, comprises a recording buffer having a capacity corresponding to a recording scanning operation for storing a drawing content to be recorded by the recording scanning operation. A printing counter 305 monitors the position of the recording buffer with a recording process by a recording head 304 completed. Whether or not new data can be recorded in the recording buffer is judged based on the present recording position shown by the printing counter 305, the recording speed of the recording head 304, the new data drawing position and the time needed for its drawing operation.
