PURPOSE: An evaporator of a direct cooling type refrigerator is provided to allow the evaporator to be optimally designed so as to evenly keep temperature in a food storage compartment. CONSTITUTION: An evaporator(50) is placed on an upper inner side of a food storage compartment to be nearer to a front side of a main body of a refrigerator than to a rear side of the main body, and has both sides bent down to both sides of the food storage compartment. A refrigerant line(51) is placed in the evaporator to allow refrigerant to be introduced to a rear side of the evaporator, pass a front side of the evaporator, move to a left side, pass the front side again, move to a right side, pass the front side again, and be discharged to the rear side. The evaporator is allowed thereby to efficiently correspond with outside air introduced from a door part, the front side of the main body, so as to keep even temperature in a front side and a rear side of the food storage compartment. Most of high temperature liquid refrigerant is allowed to remain in both of the sides of the evaporator by gravity instead of remaining in a center of the evaporator when a compressor is turned off so as to minimize heat exchange between refrigerant and air in the food storage compartment due to natural convection.
