PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer latex for coated papers for offset printing excellent in coating workability, printability such as surface strength, gloss of the print, stiffness, etc., and to provide a composition for paper coating. SOLUTION: The copolymer latex for paper coating for offset printing comprises (a) 40-70 wt.% of an aliphatic conjugated diene monomer unit, (b) 0.5-10 wt.% of an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer unit and (c) 20-59.5 wt.% of a monomer unit copolymerizable with these monomers, and the copolymer has Young's modulus≥1 kg/mm<SP>2</SP>.
