PURPOSE: A recording speed varying method of an optical disc system is provided to vary recording speed according to the size of recording data transmitted from a host by setting the data recording speed selectively by a user, thereby improving the convenience of use and reducing the rotation noise of an optical disc and the spindle motor heating. CONSTITUTION: A recording speed varying method of an optical disc system includes the steps of receiving the information on the size of recording data from a host connected via an interface(S10), and variably setting data recording speed in an optical disc system on the basis of the information. When the data size information is received, a microcomputer searches recording speed information corresponding the data size information in a memory. A signal processor receives the recording data from the host(S11), the received recording data is stored in an internal buffer in sequence. A servo controller sets a rotation speed of an optical disc on the basis of the recording speed information output from the microcomputer to control the driving of a motor driver(S12), so that the motor driver controls the driving of a spindle motor(S13).
