[Also in Division F2] In an offset printing press, the formation of ridges on the rubber blanket cylinder and consequent streaks on the copy sheet are prevented by the provision of an auxiliary gear-wheel 7 coaxial with the driving wheel 4 of the plate cylinder and connected thereto by means including springs 8 adapted to absorb backlash. The auxiliary wheel 7 and driving wheel 4 both mesh with the driving wheel 5 of the rubber blanket cylinder. A further auxiliary wheel (14), Fig. 3 (not shown), is mounted coaxially with the driving wheel 5 of the rubber-blanket cylinder and meshes with the impression cylinder driving wheel. The springs 8 are threaded on pins 9 which are screwed on to the head 10 of a screw attached to the driving wheel, and each spring bears against a disc (11), Fig. 1 (not shown), which presses against a face of a recess (12) in the auxiliary wheel 7. In a modification, auxiliary wheels may be provided on the rubberblanket cylinder and impression cylinder driving wheels only. |
