PURPOSE: A system and method for announcing an encryption mode is provided to execute the setup and release of an encryption mode using an abbreviated key and to announce each step for the setup and release of the encryption mode through an image and a sound. CONSTITUTION: If a user inputs a phone number through a keypad, an MSM executes a call through an RF transceiver. At this moment, the MSM informs the user through an LCD part or a speaker that a generic call mode is in progress(S201). The MSM judges whether the user inputs a signal through an abbreviated encryption key or selects encryption setup among menu operations(S202). If the user inputs the signal or selects encryption setup, the MSM notifies the user through the LCD part or the speaker that encryption setup is in progress(S203). The MSM judges whether an encryption call is possible(S204). If the encryption call is possible, the MSM enters an encryption setup mode(S205). Then the MSM informs the user through the LCD part or the speaker that the encryption mode is in progress(S206).
