摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which prevents such a problem that when a viewing angle increases, the contrast decreases and as a result, the viewing angle for possible display can be decreased, and in which the taking out of light propagating through a light guide plate to performed by controlling the scattering and transmitting characteristics of a polymer dispersion liquid crystal. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with a light guide plate 11, polarizing plate 12 disposed on the face of the light guide plate 11 where the light is to be taken out, and a PDLC 13 to take out the light propagating the light guide plate 11. The light guide plate transmits polarized light perpendicular to the plane including the incident direction of the light to the light guide plate and the direction of the driving electric field of the PDLC when the refractive index of the base polymer of the PDLC is equal to the refractive index for ordinary rays in the polarizing plate.
