A system of architectural steelwork e.g. balcony or staircase railing is secured by upright posts, each secured to a circular base plate (1). The base plate esp. has a central aperture (4) with surrounding inner thread and a concentric groove (2) on the front side. The groove receives the base rim of a suitable metal post. The base plate rear face has three to eight circular detents in line with and open to the concentric groove (2).
