PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder and a method for detecting ink jet miss in which detection of ink jet miss is automated while reducing the detection cost, and print quality is enhanced. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder 10 comprising an ink jet head 20 for ejecting ink drops from a nozzle opening is further provided with an ink jet miss detecting means 110 consisting of an inspection plate onto which a test print pattern is formed by the ink jet head 20, and a means for detecting the print pattern on the inspection plate.
