PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer medium detector which can detect a transfer medium and can measure a skew amount highly accurately with the use of a detecting element with functions of a light emitting element and a light receiving element. SOLUTION: The transfer medium detector has a plurality of detecting elements 1a and 1b arranged as a detecting mechanism ahead in an advancement direction of the transfer medium 2 so as to detect an arrival of the transfer medium 2.
