PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assure the levitation equal to the case when three poles are disposed with in the rang of two a pole pitches, to and minimize the electrodynamic suspension ripples while the effect to the super conducting magnets is further reduced than in the case three poles are disposed. SOLUTION: Seven levitation/guide coils 1 are disposed with a constant pitch within 5.4 m which is four times the pile pitch. An arrangement pattern is repeated where the size of the coil (horizontal length) is 671.4 mm and the interval between the coils is 771.4 mm. As a result of the experiment performed under such condition as a distance from a super conducting coil and the levitation/guide coil 1 is 175 mm, at a speed of 100 km/h, it is found that the electrodynamic suspension ripples are significantly reduced compared with the case where four levitation/guide coils 1 are disposed with a constant pitch within 2.7 m which twice the pole pitch. The effect on the super conducting magnet is also reduced compared with the case in which three poles are disposed at a constant pitch within the length twice the pole pitch. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
