PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of easily enhancing the quality of printing. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer includes a lower sheet feed tray 3a and an upper sheet feed tray 3b furnished with ribs 11 and 12 on their side where sheets of paper 2 are placed, and the ribs 11 and 12 are formed substantially semi-circularly so that the trailing edge 2b of each sheet 2 can contact smoothly with the surfaces of the lower 3a and upper trays 3b. Another rib 10 is formed in the sheet leading edge receptacle part 7 of a base cover 1 and is given a shape having a taper 10a so as to relieve the step between a separating pad 8 and the bottom surface of the sheet leading edge receptacle part 7. Further a rib 13 is provided located at the coupling between the lower tray 3a and base cover 1 and having a taper so as to relieve the step between the rib 11 and the coupling part.
