A drive mechanism for actuating an unloading belt in switching machines comprising means capable of engaging a belt supporting roller to control its rotation and effect the unloading of a transported object during the forward motion of the trolley holding the belt. The means include a rack (18) capable of engaging a sprocket (4) solidly affixed to the shaft of one of the rollers (3). The rack is mounted on a support (17) subjected to the action of eccentric devices (16) designed to govern the shifts from a position of rest to one of engaging with the sprocket.
